Dodge Challenger · 1970–1974
Challenger colors and paint codes
Every factory color Over-Drive Magazine lists for the first-generation Challenger: 56 color names across five model years, with the paint code from that year's source. The swatches are approximate screen colors, not paint matches.
1970 Challenger colors
21 colors
21 factory colors.1one source 9 of the 21 color names are confirmed by a second source12.
No source we have gives the number of cars per color, so the counts are left empty. Dodge's 1970 Challenger catalog has no color list, so the 21 names and codes are Over-Drive's. Consumer Guide counts 18 colors at launch, Panther Pink and Green Go added later; that makes 20, one fewer than Over-Drive's list (our count), and no source says which of the 21 is the odd one. Consumer Guide's «Top Banana» and «Sub Lime» are the High Impact names; Over-Drive lists Y1 as «Bright Yellow», and no Challenger source we have ties Top Banana to a code.
1971 Challenger colors
22 colors
22 factory colors.3one source 5 of the 22 color names are confirmed by a second source34.
No source we have gives the number of cars per color, so the counts are left empty. The 22 names and codes are Over-Drive's; its list has two «Dark Green» codes, F7 and F8. Dodge's Canadian 1971 catalog names Plum Crazy, Green Go, Tor-Red, Butter Scotch and Citron Yella as extra-cost colors; Over-Drive's list has no Tor-Red.
1972 Challenger colors
16 colors
16 factory colors.5one source The color names come from one source5one source.
No source we have gives the number of cars per color, so the counts are left empty. The 16 colors are those in Dodge's 1972 Challenger catalog, which prints no codes; Hemi Orange and Top Banana are its two High Impact colors at extra cost.
1973 Challenger colors
16 colors
16 factory colors.6one source 2 of the 16 color names are confirmed by a second source26.
No source we have gives the number of cars per color, so the counts are left empty. The 16 colors are the 16 fields of the color wheel in Dodge's 1973 Challenger catalog, which Consumer Guide's count of 16 matches; the printed list beside the wheel has 15 and leaves out Pale Green (JF1). Top Banana is the only one at extra cost.
1974 Challenger colors
16 colors
16 factory colors.7one source The color names come from one source7one source.
No source we have gives the number of cars per color, so the counts are left empty. The 16 colors are the chart in Dodge's 1974 folder, which is headed «Dart/Challenger exterior colors» and so is shared with the Dart. Three codes (KL8, KB5, FE5) were read off the image, where OCR read 5 as S and 8 as B.
