The first Camaro: Chevrolet's answer to the Mustang, as a coupe or a convertible, with 220,906 built.

The Camaro was General Motors' answer to the Ford Mustang. Chevrolet built 220,906 of them for 1967: 195,765 coupes and 25,141 convertibles.23
Most were built in Norwood, Ohio, and the rest of the US cars at Van Nuys near Los Angeles; a smaller number were assembled abroad from kits. Production of the 1967 model ran from August 1966 to July 1967.34
Buyers built their own car from the options: the RS appearance package, the SS, and from December 1966 the Z/28, a racing package with a 302 V8 that only 602 cars received.25
The story of the year
A Camaro RS/SS convertible with a 396 V8 paced the 1967 Indianapolis 500.36
Chevrolet built on it with a Pacesetter sales campaign at its dealers. It was a sales promotion, not a performance package, and was aimed mostly at six-cylinder cars.3one source

Rows from Chevrolet's production records as printed by the Camaro Research Group. Over-Drive gives the same 195,765 coupes and 25,141 convertibles. A 1967–77 production table reprinted in GM Heritage's 1969 information kit gives a slightly higher total; see the ruling.
9 engines. The code is Chevrolet's regular production option (RPO) code.
Codes are Chevrolet's Regular Production Option (RPO) codes. A Camaro VIN does not carry an engine code: its third digit only says six or V8.

No source we have gives the number of cars per color, so the counts are left empty. Usage shares printed by the Camaro Research Group are listed instead: Bolero Red (13.8 percent), Butternut Yellow (13.5) and Granada Gold (13.1) lead. The Camaro Research Group and Over-Drive list the same 15 colors and codes; Over-Drive spells Madeira Maroon «Madera».
