The story of the year
The Z/28 was built for the SCCA's Trans-Am class, which had a limit of five litres, or 305 cubic inches.6one source
Its 302 V8 was rated at 290 hp, which kept the claimed figure under one horsepower per cubic inch.57
For 1968 the Z/28 appeared in Chevrolet's brochures, and production rose from 602 to 7,199, most of them in the last third of the model year.356

9 engines. The code is Chevrolet's regular production option (RPO) code.
Codes are Chevrolet's Regular Production Option (RPO) codes. A Camaro VIN does not carry an engine code: its third digit only says six or V8.

19 factory colors, by share of production9one source. The color names are confirmed by two sources48; the swatches are approximate screen colors, not paint matches.
No source we have gives the number of cars per color, so the counts are left empty. Usage shares printed by the Camaro Research Group are listed instead: Ash Gold (12.4 percent) and Matador Red (11.0) lead. Tuxedo Black, Fathom Blue, Grecian Green and Palomino Ivory were dropped in January 1968, and Rallye Green, Corvette Bronze, LeMans Blue and British Green added. The Camaro Research Group and Over-Drive list the same 19 colors and codes.

Open
Our ruling: Unresolved. We show 235,147 because the Camaro Research Group's rows add up to it. The reference page in GM Heritage's 1968 kit gives the same total, but its option counts match the Camaro Research Group's digit for digit, so it is the same chain of figures, not a second source. Over-Drive's coupes and a 1967–77 production table reprinted in GM Heritage's 1969 information kit make 235,151. No independent source settles the four cars.
